AARAKSHAN aur ANDOLAN..
WHAT IS RESERVATION? Reservation is a quota-based affirmative action which is governed by constitutionall laws, statutory laws, and local rules and regulations. Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST) and Other Backward Classes (OBC) are the primary beneficiaries of the reservation policies under the constitution.
A 21 years old affluent and influential face that has emerged as a powerful weapon of mass upheaval, is named Hardik Patel. Through a moustache on that young face and the rage in his eyes, I am surely supporting the cause of his leadership qualities which is capable enough to assemble a crowd of 25 lacs, stand on a stage and challenge the political system, let cause massive burn-out of public property, political figures and government servants by an arrest. Some might oppose me here with, "He is just the face and real game is being played elsewhere." I exalt, "It takes a lot to just be a face, in such situations."
On my political understanding, this dramatised galvanisation is more than the demand of OBC reservation. Going through the superficial surface and digging deeper, this might just be an attempt to scrap the caste based reservation, forever. How many of us belonging to the General cadre have felt the grudge of missing a government seat (and being high on merit), because of the OBC/ST/SC reservations? How many of us have burned the childhood dream of being a doctor because of the imposed government reservations and the high donations in self-financed medical colleges? How many of our parents have taken hand loans to fulfill the unaffordable academic aspirations? I have myself sat in rooms with a merit of Rank 30 with a reserved general quota of 25 students. At the end of the day, the officials are heard shouting in the hall, "Koi ST/SC/OBC bacha hai kya? Hum merit 230 tak pohonche hai, inki seats khali padi hai." Then they fall to the level of selling the empty seats to people who belong to the general category, with the fees of NRI quota. That way it is heard, especially if candidates like me dont have a domicile, "Dekhiye hum addmission toh kara dete hai, lekin fees toh zyada lagega aur thoda bohot upar se dena padega." (Thoda bohot sums upto thoda sa 35 lacs and more) There has to be a reason that PAAS has not formally petitioned the OBC commission and has come on streets in aggressive hunches. Why a community who has historically dominated in the name of "upper class" would fall on the roads for such a cause?
Political Agenda: Stuck on their vote bank views, BJP (in the State or at the Centre) surely can't let go the unified support of the Patidars. On sheer numbers, Patidars can win 70 of the 182 assembly seats, not to mention the OBC support BJP obviously has. Congress, which has been longest in power at the State through Adivasi-Kshatriya-Harijan-Minoritiies isolation of political support, would surely plunge in to bring the Patidars in their favour. Million dollar question- Where would Hardik take the upheaval along?
Why they didn't involve other upper classes in the clause? Those who don't need it, already have it. Those who would want it, already are too upper classed to take a bow down. Those who have it, wouldn't give it away.
Amidst high political standards, mind games, laathi charge, tear gas norms, allegations of AAP involvement and egoistic grudge, "Police, government and political parties"-andolaan ke nishaane par toh sahi log hai. ;-)
Amidst everything written against the Maha Rally and the destructive ways used by the Patidar protestors, I retaliate on a reformative term. On grass root thoughts, a raged mind is always the cause of an unheard outcry or oppression of thoughts.
